Flynn Downes
Here’s a good article on Downes and how he is doing at Southampton. Let’s hope Southampton get promoted so they can afford to buy him.
According to the article they rate him highly, use the proceeds to pay for Phillips permanent deal?
OR would you let Phillips walk and bring him back to see if he can do it at Prem level?

100% the logical answer is recall Downes and send Phillips on his way.

However as it’s Moyes I expect Downes to leave for a pittance and us to waste loads of money on Philips, or Phillips goes and Downes rots in our reserves.

he never got the chance in the league, instead he played him on the wing (😂) or at 10 (😂). he did get the chance in europe, and did prove that he can do it with a couple of MOTM performances, yet the jock bastard still hated him

Wouldnt touch Phillips with a BARGE POLE
Hopefully the new manager brings Downes back and assesses him ... putting him in correct position

Not sure if Downes would of been able to replicate the quality play from Phillips that started the move for Soucek’s goal yesterday.

Re: Flynn Downes
How much would Philips cost? 30-40m

How much would we get for Downes? 15-20m

Downes is three years younger than Philips and has had a much better season.

Personally I would have Downes over Philips.

If Moyes stays then neither are likely to displace Soucek or Alvarez and Moyes is most likely to go for Philips so we end up with the lesser option at greater cost.

Re: Flynn Downes
I said that when we signed Phillips I’d rather give Downes another go. At the moment Phillips is probably a better player but for what he’d cost I don’t see the point of keeping him & flogging Downes, Downes could be as good as KP quite easily

Re: Flynn Downes
IF Phillips gets it together in this loan I don't see why any decent manger wouldn't want both him & Downes if you are serious about squad building to push on.

It's mainly down to having a manager that plays these players in their correct positions and having decent cover for them Downes and Soucek would be excellent cover for Alvarez & Phillips or vice versa. Ward Prowse could then be pushed up to fight it out to be more consistent to get a place.

Re: Flynn Downes
Southampton hadnt lost for 21 or so games, Downes got injured for 5 or 6 games and they didnt one I dont think? He returned this weekend and they won a game again.

He’s key for them. One of the best in the division for interceptions and pressing.

He will never play for West Ham under Moyes. He wanted him sold but Noble and Steidten disagreed and said loan.

Why? Because Downes was brought in by Sullivan / Newman on the advice of Warbarton and not Moyes. Thats how insecure Moyes is.

Same thing for Cornet, Benrahma when ge arrived, Mavropanos until forced recently to pick him ahead of Aguerd. Alvarez and Kudus were so good from the start he had to play them. Even Emerson was behind the fast deteriorating Cresswell when he first arrived and hardly got any minutes.

Its all about David Moyes showing he’s right and in charge even when it contradicts reality and stats. Moyes puts himself and what makes him look best ahead of the club / team. He’s a megalomaniac :-)

Was speaking to a soton ST holder saying he’s been one of their best players this season and they hope to buy him if they go up

Do you have any evidence to back that up?

Re: Flynn Downes
Just poking my nose in to this conversation. There were links to Sullivan's involvement with Warburton getting appointed by Sullivan and suggesting to Sullivan that we buy Downes. I can't find any references to it now except this from Football.London shows Sullivan had links to Warburton that suggests they spoke...

"Warburton was widely expected to take on another job in management following his departure from QPR, with his name heavily linked with the Birmingham City job. The Blues are currently part of a proposed takeover by ex-Watford chairman Laurence Bassini who is backed financially by West Ham owner David Sullivan. When Warburton arrived at Rush Green last month, speculation grew that the appointment was made by Sullivan, though the new Irons coach said it was in fact his relationship with Moyes that eventually brought him through the door in east London."

Re: Flynn Downes
Warburton was on a podcast the other day, said he left West Ham because we wanted to remain friends with Moyes and they were clashing over several things, that considered , wouldn't suprise me the Downes thing being true.

Hope he gets another chance, Southampton fans absolutely rave about him, assuming Moyes doesn't stay then he absolutely should be recalled

Re: Flynn Downes
I'd fuck both of them off. Downes is just a trainee Soucek and Phillips is just downright shit. An awful loan signing, predictably.

a season of not playing him in his proper position, this after shining in multiple european games in central midfield. when he did get a couple of chances in the league it was on the wing or behind the forward. only a cunt does this, something he repeated this season with the four CMs. what more evidence do you need?

dealcanvey 1:24 Mon Mar 4
Re: Flynn Downes
Think Downes was thrown under the bus last season.

Only started league games away against the top clubs when Moyes just wanted to hold onto a 0-0 draw.

He should be given a chance.

You also said Rice would never make it in midfield and was a failed centreback.

Forgive us if we don't take your player analysis seriously

It was a ridiculous decision to loan him out without a recall in Jan, and then bring in the expensive and useless Philips in to make up the numbers.

Evidence to back up the claim that Moyes wanted to sell Downes because he was a Sullivan/Newman signing
